WICHITA, Kan. — Police are looking for thieves after thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was taken from a Wichita hotel Sunday night.
Several vendors were in Wichita for a traveling jewelry and clothing show. They came in Monday morning to find thieves had helped themselves.
It happened sometime between five Sunday evening and 8:30 Monday morning. Police say the suspects were allowed to use the restroom in the building, then found an open door and took jewelry that was on display.
They stole more than $16,000 in unique Masonic, Kiwanis and Shriners jewelry. Silver, gold and crystal pieces are also missing.
They also took a flat screen TV, a cash box and some change.
"You feel violated." said Kelly Ford of Montage Clothing. "It's a nice hotel with security, and all the doors are locked"
For Ford, this is how she and the other traveling vendors make a living. To lose so much is discouraging, but she hopes the thieves will come forward so they can put the rest behind them.
"If you bring it back, hand it to me," Ford said. "I don't need to talk to the police."
Thursday afternoon, police released stills taken from surveillance video. Those pictures are posted below. Anyone with information is asked to call the Wichita Police burglary section at (316) 268-4141.
