WICHITA, Kan Wichita Police will be honored for a July 4th rescue of a dog. People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, will present a Compassionate Action Award to Wichita Police.
Officers found a German Shepherd named Harley on the overpass at Kellogg & Tyler July 4th. Harley was spooked by fireworks, got out of his fence and ran. A photo of the rescue was posted on social media. Harley was reunited with his owners the next day.
"The tenacity and know-how shown by the Wichita Police Department—both on the street and in officers' successful use of social media—is an inspiration," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Wichita is very fortunate to have first responders who are ready to protect and serve all members of the community—human and nonhuman alike."
