Riley County police say a group of teenage boys posted inappropriate photos on the internet of underage girls, prompting an investigation.
Officer Matt Droge, the spokesman for the Riley County Police Department, says it was reported to the agency that over the past several months, five juvenile males obtained and posted racy pictures of ten different juvenile female victims to an online account.
He declined to elaborate on the photographs or the website they were uploaded to, saying only that it was not Twitter or Facebook.
Droge says the alleged offenses took place in northern Riley County but could not provide any other details on the case.
The matter is being investigated by the RCPD as Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Aggravated Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Electronic Solicitation, Promoting Pornography of a Minor, Breach of Privacy and Conspiracy.
Police did not provide an exact age of the minors involved. According to officials, they are in the middle school-high school age range.
Riley County USD 378 Superintendent Brad Starnes could not speak about the online investigation but told WIBW that it did not happen on school grounds, on school time or on school equipment.
He says information has been given to parents and students that no electronic devices are to be at school and if those devices are seen or heard, they will be confiscated and students must follow the school district's policy to retrieve them.
As far as any disciplinary action, Starnes says USD 378 does not act on allegations. If there is a situation where a student faces a felony charge, they would only go through a disciplinary process once there is a conclusion in the criminal case.
