WICHITA, Kan. -- An 80-year-old man has been killed and his wife injured, following a rear-end collision between a semi-truck and a car.

It happened around 9:40 p.m. Monday at K-42 and Maize Road. The driver of a car, Truman Shinn of Conway Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife Carol, 80, has potentially serious injuries. The driver of the semi, Glenn Hoefer of Haysville, was not hurt.

Trooper Joe Middleton told reporters both vehicles were heading west on Southwest Boulevard, or K-42.

"The light had just turned green. The semi was just beginning to pull through the intersection, when the passenger car hit the semi," he said.

The crash remains under investigation.
