WICHITA, Kan. -- One man is in critical condition after a motorcycle and an SUV collided late Saturday morning in southwest Wichita.

It happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of May Street and St. Clair. That's near Meridian and Orient Blvd.

Police at the scene said the driver of a black Ford Expedition was heading east on May and turned in front of the motorcycle. They collided head-on.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital with critical injuries. Police said he was not wearing a helmet, but that wasn't the issue. He had several lower-body injuries, including a double-compound fracture to one of his legs. He was alert and speaking with EMS on the way to the hospital. His name has not been released.

One occupant of the SUV was arrested at the scene for issues unrelated to the crash. The driver of the SUV was cited for a traffic violation.
