Wichita, Kan. -- One person has died following a crash at Douglas and Market in downtown Wichita. The crash happened while two vehicles were racing.
The accident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday and shut down all traffic between Broadway and Main along Douglas.
Police said Jorge Espinosa-Velez, 26, was killed when the car he was driving lost control and struck a pillar. A 23-year-old woman in the car was injured.
The driver of the other vehicle stopped and tried to provide medical assistance.
Police said there is no evidence of drugs or alcohol being involved in the crash.
It will be up to the District Attorney to determine if charges are filed.
Police Sgt. James Buettgenbach says two cars were racing along Douglas, traveling westbound, when the driver of one cars lost control and crashed into a metal barrier.
Firefighters worked to free the driver from the car, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was taken by EMS to the hospital in serious condition.

"Really devastating and I just hope his family is doing OK. It was very hard to watch,” Nina Sudarson said.
One man told us he saw the two cars racing just before one of them crashed.
“As soon as the light on Douglas and Broadway turned green they gunned it. The black one was on the inside lane and he started to lose control down here and by the time I looked around he had already crashed,” Russell Vanwey said.
