WICHITA, Kan. — Police believe speed and alcohol played a role in a fatal crash that happened yesterday in north Wichita.

One person was killed and another hurt after a car struck a tree near 22nd and Jackson around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The driver was seriously hurt and rushed to an area hospital. The passenger was pinned in the car and was later pronounced dead at the scene. He's been identified as 55-year-old Kevin E. Donn.

Witnesses told officers that the car was going between 55 and 75 miles per hour for at least four blocks before the driver lost control and hit the tree.

Paramedics also smelled alcohol, and said there were signs of drinking inside the car.

Police are expected to present their case to the district attorney's office, and the driver could face vehicular homicide charges.
