Wichita Police continue to search for the driver of a vehicle wanted in connection to an 8-year-old girl's shooting death.

A stray bullet struck Kimbra Moore in the head while she slept in her bed inside her mobile home near 31st St. South and Broadway. Her mother found her lying in a pool of blood about 30 minutes after gunshots were heard in the area. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the alleged shooter, Zachary Gaston, 24, was booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Center Tuesday night. He faces charges of murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and two counts of shooting at occupied dwellings. Gaston is expected to make a first appearance in court later this week.

During a police briefing Wednesday, officers said a second arrest had been made in the case. A 28-year-old woman was booked for aiding and abetting a felon.

Officers also said a vehicle that may have been involved in the disturbance was recovered in Planeview Park. Police were looking for a stolen 2011 black Ford Focus. Investigators said the driver remains outstanding.

Anyone with information on the driver, or tips that could help with the investigation should call 911.

UPDATE: Tuesday, September 4, 2012

Four people are in custody after an 8-year-old girl died from a stray bullet while sleeping overnight. Police believe one of those in custody fired the shots.

"Officers were conducting a neighborhood and located a bullet hole in another trailer," said Lt. Todd Ojile, commander of the WPD homicide unit. "Upon checking that trailer, they located an 8-year-old girl that had received a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene."

Ojile said the girl was asleep in her bedroom with her 4- and 6-year-old siblings in the same room.

It happened at a mobile home park in the 3100 block of South Broadway Street around 3:15 a.m. Ojile says a fight broke out between a man walking in the area and a man in a car.

Officers were called to the scene after one of the bullets struck a woman in the head. Police said she was sitting in her home watching a movie when one of the bullets grazed her head. The woman was taken to Via Christi St. Francis in stable condition, where she was treated and released.

Police then started notifying homeowners in the area after finding bullet holes in homes and shell casings nearby. Officers were told about the girl's death about 30 minutes after the initial shooting.

The family's pastor tells KAKE News that the child and two other siblings were asleep inside, when stray bullets hit the home.

The mother told the pastor that she went to check on her children after hearing gunshots, but did not find anything suspicious. She went to check on them again, and found her daughter in a pool of blood.

The 8-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. The other two children, ages 4 and 6, were sleeping next to the victim. They were not hurt.

A USD 259 spokeswoman said the girl was a 3rd grade student at Enterprise Elementary and previously attended White Elementary. The district said the crisis response team is at the school to provide support for students and staff.

Police are looking for the driver of a 2011 black Ford Focus with Kansas plates 511 EVP in connection to the deadly shooting. Investigators said the car may be stolen. Anyone with information should call 911.
