Elderly Man Killed In Sedgwick County Crash Identified

An elderly man from Rose Hill has died after an accident in southeast Sedgwick County Sunday afternoon.

Capt. Annette Haga, Sedgwick County, said Richard Welliver, 88, was driving east on 55th Street, when he ran a stop sign at the intersection. A southbound pickup struck Welliver's car.

Welliver died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a Wichita hospital with minor injuries.

One person is dead and another hurt in an accident in southeast Sedgwick County. The crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of 55th Street South and 143rd Street East.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Lt. Mary Mattingly says the driver of a car, and elderly man, was heading eastbound on 55th Street when he ran the stop sign at the intersection. He crashed into a pickup truck that was heading southbound on 143rd Street.

Mattingly says the driver of the car died at the scene. The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was taken to a Wichita hospital with minor injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The victims' names have not been released. The accident is under investigation.
