Gottschalk was westbound on 13th, believed to be on his way home, when he lost control. Police say he drifted, over-corrected and went airborne before striking a drainage culvert and crashing into a tree.
Gottschalk was wearing a seatbelt, but officers believe he was killed instantly.

Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies are working a fatal accident this morning in far west Wichita.
The crash was discovered shortly before 7 a.m. Monday at 13th Street North and 135th Street West. Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old man has died.
Authorities believe the car could have been there for some time before it was found. They're working to determine what time it happened, but an area resident reported hearing a sound around midnight.
Per a preliminary investigation, deputies believe the driver lost control, went off-road and airborne before hitting a tree. They are unsure if high speed was a factor, but are looking at that possibility. The 19-year-old was the only person in the car.
That entire intersection is shut down as emergency crews work the accident.
We do have a crew on scene and will bring you the latest information as soon as we get it.
