Monday night's cold weather, combined with snow that fell earlier in the day, made getting around tough, but the conditions weren't enough to keep people from welcoming 2013.

Bar owners spent much of the day Friday gearing up for a busy night.

"I think that's always an Old Town type of a crowd," said Jason Smith, co-owner of Revolution. "They decide, 'Let's go somewhere a little bit different.' People who stay on their sides of town want to come out and try something a little bit different."

Smith's new bar, Revolution, made its New Year's Eve debut. He said there's a celebration for almost any crowd in Old Town.

"All around, all of our places look like they're going to be busy tonight," Smith said.

The parties were not limited to Old Town. Celebrations were planned across Wichita, including the grand opening celebration at the new Ambassador Hotel in downtown Wichita. The event sold out and every room was booked.

With New Year's celebrations come increased chances of people getting behind the wheel after having too much to drink. Keeping an eye out for that is how many law enforcement officers spent their New Year's Eve.

"Our officers will certainly be out there keeping an eye to make sure that traffic's moving safely," said Wichita Police Lt. Doug Nolte.

Being safe is what those hosting the fun wanted from those partying as well. Smith urged revelers to take just a few minutes to plan how to get home.

"Just actually think of it before you come out," he said. "Don't just kind of put it on the back burner and then be looking for something at 1:30 in the morning. It's going to be a bit difficult."
