WICHITA, Kan.-- Wichita fire officials remind people to shoot fireworks in the same city that they purchase the fireworks.

"If you live in Sedgwick County or in Wichita and you go to another community and buy them, like Butler County, you're taking a chance of buying something that's illegal," said Wichita Fire Marshal Bradley Crisp.

Items bought within the city of Wichita have been tested by the Wichita Fire Department and are legal to buy and shoot in Wichita.

If you use the illegal fireworks and get caught by a member of the Wichita Fire or Police Department, then you can get a citation. The fine is up to $2,500 or up to a year in jail. There is a mandatory court appearance and the judge decides the fine.

"It's us and you guys' job to make sure that everyone knows to shoot 'em where you buy 'em and be courteous of your neighbors, be courteous to the laws," said Jacob Marietta, manager at Wholesale Fireworks.
