A large part of Southwest Wichita was blocked off for more than an hour overnight after an officer-involved shooting.

It happened in the 2800 block of West Pawnee, near Pawnee and Meridian, just before midnight.

Wichita Police said an officer was doing some paperwork while sitting in his patrol car.

He saw a person look around the corner, then raise what the officer described as a "long gun."

The officer got out of his car and fired several shots, thinking he was about to be fired upon. The other person then fled the scene.

Police blocked off several surrounding blocks for about an hour and a half while they searched for the man.

A police spokesperson said they do not believe at this time that the other person fired any shots, and do not know if that person was hit by the officer's gunfire.

Nobody was hurt. The incident remains under investigation.
