A man is in custody following a brief standoff in Great Bend.

Shortly before noon on Thursday, a caller told 911 dispatchers that a man was threatening others with firearms and a baseball bat.

Barton County sheriff's deputies responded to the home in the 400 block of SE 58th Avenue and made contact with the man inside, but he refused to come out. Officers entered the home and began talking to the man who was in another room.

After a short standoff, the suspect tried to get to another room that contained firearms, but he was overpowered by deputies and taken into custody.

Travis Beal, 38, of rural Ellinwood has since been booked into the Barton County Jail where is he is facing charges of Aggravated Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He's expected in court later today.
