The death of a Hays teenager was the result of an accident and not foul play, the Ellis County Sheriff said today.
Citliatli Armendariz was last seen leaving a party Saturday night. Her body was found by searchers Monday afternoon.
Investigators determined Armendariz left the party and accidentally fell head first from a six-foot embankment onto the ice on Big Creek. After the fall she crossed the creek and walked one quarter of a mile where her body was found.
An autopsy showed her cause of death was hypothermia due to the fall on ice and water while being underdressed for the weather conditions. She also suffered a head injury during the fall.
Armendariz was a senior at Hays High School.
