VALLEY CENTER, Kan Valley Center residents may be able to play golf in the future on a new course.
The Valley Center Recreation Commission will ask the Valley Center School Board to lease some land. They will make the request at tonight's meeting.
The Rec Commission owns enough land, about 15 acres, for a four hole course. By leasing another 15 acres from the School Board the Rec Commission would have enough land for a better course.
"What we will do is go from essentially a 4 to 5 hole golf course with a short driving range to a full fledged 9 hole, par 3 course with at least a 300 yard driving range," said Rec Commissioner Director Steve Geddes. "We'd like to be able to offer some classes. That's kind of important as far as what we can do for the community and really just involve the community in another leisure time activity."
The Rec Commission already has the money saved to get work on the course going. The golf course will utilize a card-swipe system so it won't need to be staffed.
