Sedgwick County Commissioners approved the addition of four part-time positions.

The Sedgwick County Treasurer's Office requested four new part-time positions to help alleviate tag problems that arose when the state switched to a new vehicle registration computer system earlier this year.

"Once we get all of the records into the system, then it will assist because I won't have to have regular staff taking their time to put these records into the system," said Linda Kizzire, Sedgwick County treasurer.

The request was made at the Sedgwick County Commission meeting Wednesday morning.

During the presentation, commissioners discussed their concerns about recent troubles at county tag offices, including long lines.

"This issue has been going on since May. I think it's about time we get on with the program and get the thing fixed. I'm totally disgusted by this. Our citizens deserve far better," said Jim Skelton, commissioner.

The new employees will finish the work of converting approximately 6,000 tag records that the state was unable to complete before the changeover took place in May.

Staff said lines are usually long during the end of the month and they encourage people to renew tags online or by sending it in the mail to help manage the waiting issue.
