WICHITA, Kan. -- A new 3,000-calorie burger has created quite a buzz in Wichita.
Spangles' new "Beast" Burger debuted Christmas Eve.
It features six 1/3 pound Black Angus steak burger patties and 12 slices of American cheese. It's topped with onions, pickles, mustard, and ketchup.
And, it's selling.
Spangles leaders say even they are surprised by the burger's success.
"Sales keep building every day and we are just astonished," said Stephanie Huckins, Director of Marketing for Spangles.
Huckins says at least a dozen people have already ordered the burger. Those people include Brandon Doherty of Salina who on Friday ordered it and ate it all himself.
But, Spangles leaders say, they don't really expect one person to eat the whole burger.
Huckins says Spangles co-owner Dale Steven created the burger as something fun to be shared and talked about.
It's certainly drawing the talk, which has been a mixed bag of enthusiasm and concern.
The burger costs $21.99. If you are feeling especially hungry, or brave, you can order it as a $24.99 value pack that comes with fries and drink.
Huckins says the burger is available for a limited time but there's no set date for when it will be taken off the menu.
"We'll keep serving it as long as customers keep ordering it," Huckins said.
