The Kansas Highway Patrol has arrested a Texas woman wanted for allegedly killing her husband's mistress. Shannon L. O'Roark Griffin, 52, of Granbury, Texas, was taken into custody without incident just before 5 p.m. on Interstate 35 in Newton.
On Friday, Gladstone, Missouri police say Griffin's husband, retired Air Force Colonel Roscoe L. O. Griffin, reported he had received a call from his wife telling him she had just shot and killed Irina Puscariu. Puscariu was a psychiatrist who worked in the Kansas City area.
Investigators say after receiving the call from his wife, Roscoe Griffin called Puscariu's home and was told by her mother, Aneta Puscariu, that she was dead. Aneta Puscariu told police Shannon Griffin came to their home in Gladstone, shot her daughter and then left.
Earlier in the day, police say the Griffins met with a therapist in Great Bend, Kansas. In the meeting, Roscoe Griffin told his wife about his relationship with Puscariu and that he refused to stop seeing her. Shannon Griffin walked out of the meeting. Later on the phone, police say the couple discussed getting a divorce.
According to police documents, Shannon Griffin told her husband she did what had to be done to protect him and others from Puscariu, whom she called an "evil woman." She said Puscariu was not going to hurt anyone else again.
Sedgwick County Sheriff officials confirm Shannon Griffin is being held at the county jail. She is facing charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action and is scheduled to go before a judge next week.
On an online social networking website, Shannon Griffin describes her occupation as a retired training specialist for Space Shuttle Systems at NASA Johnson Space Center. Sources say Roscoe Griffins works as a Junior ROTC instructor for the Lyons Unified School District.
