A mother and daughter say they were standing right next to the gunman when he started shooting inside the Kmart at 47th and Broadway Wednesday afternoon.
"Oh I saw him, yeah. He was standing next to us," the mother said.
The mother and daughter were picking up a prescription in the pharmacy when the man walked up.
"Real well dressed guy, meticulously dressed," the mother said.
The mother said he seemed nervous and impatient, but she just assumed he was in a hurry. She and her daughter were taking their time and catching up with the girl behind the counter.
"She went to school with my daughter so they were speaking to one another and we just thought we were taking up this man's time," the mother said.
But that's when the daughter says the man went behind the counter, pointed a gun at the pharmacy clerk's head, and started demanding prescription drugs.
"He was making unreasonable demands and was just very erratic and screaming at her. I just kept hearing her say, 'What?' and the next thing I know there was a gun shot," the daughter said.
The daughter says she thought the girl had been shot.
When the man fired off another round, she and her mom took off.
"We were all running and we yelled at the people who were at the registers to get out of the store, run," the mother said.
The two women say the gunman eventually ran out behind them.
The daughter took down a description of him and his car and gave it to police. That description helped track his car to an apartment complex in south Wichita.
