Most flights, both arrivals and departures, have been canceled at Mid-Continent Airport. Allegiant has been the only holdout, with one flight scheduled to take off later and another set to arrive.

K-44 has been shut down in Harper County, from Anthony and 24 miles to the east.

UPDATE: Monday, February 25, 2013

Wichita and Sedgwick County are now under a Blizzard Warning, issued by the National Weather Service early Monday morning.

At about 4 a.m., a Blizzard Warning was issued for Harvey, Butler, Sedgwick, Sumner and Cowley Counties. The warning is set to expire at noon on Tuesday.

The storm system is moving slower than expected.

KAKEland Managing Meteorologist Jay Prater said the Wichita area could see four to nine inches of snow, with the heaviest snow falling during the evening rush hour Monday.

A Blizzard warning was also issued for Reno, Kingman and Harper Counties. That warning is set to expire a little earlier, at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Snow is already falling in many parts of the state. Blowing snow and and low visibility has resulted in several highway closures in southwest Kansas. See the full list to the left of this story.

In other areas closer to south central Kansas, US-50 is reported to be snow-packed and icy from Cimarron to Newton, as well as US-54 from Liberal to Pratt.

Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn says roads in his county are icy, snow-packed and drifting in spots. He says conditions are extremely dangerous and is discouraging travel.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Wichita, Salina, and Hutchinson. A Blizzard Warning has been issued for Southwest Kansas, including Garden City, Dodge City, and Liberal.

Snow is expected to start in Western Kansas slowly spread south and east overnight Sunday into Monday. The storm will begin as rain in central and South Central Kansas after dark on Sunday and switch over to freezing rain and snow overnight Sunday into Monday.

Areas NW of a Oakley to Norton line can expect a trace to 2" of snow by Monday evening. Liberal to Garden City to WaKeeney to Hill City can expect 2-5" of snow by Monday night. Dodge City to Hays to Salina to Eureka to locations along the OK/KS border can expect 6-12" of snow by Tuesday afternoon. Amounts will vary by location depending on the track of the system. At this time, the the heaviest snow will likely fall in Wichita during the afternoon and evening Monday.

The slower movement of this system will keep snow and blowing snow in the forecast for central and eastern Kansas overnight Monday into Tuesday. By Tuesday afternoon, the snow should taper to flurries.
