Two Wichita middle school students were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of the sale and/or possession of marijuana.

The Pleasant Valley Middle School students are ages 12 and 15. They were not identified because they are minors.

"That's not good. They started at 12, imagine where they will be when they get past 15," said Erika Torres, who has a daughter that attends Pleasant Valley Middle School.

A school district spokeswoman says a teacher overheard students talking about drug activity. That teacher told administrators who then called one of the students in to the office. In the course of speaking with the student and investigating the incident, school administrators learned another student also was involved. That's when administrators called police.

"It pops up in my mind as just 'wow.' I just can't believe that at this age they already having it with them," said Nitasha Rodriguez, who has a daughter that attends Pleasant Valley.

Police records show the two students were take to the Juvenile Detention Center.

"If they are bringing that stuff, the marijuana here, what if they bring a knife or gun or something else next time? You never know if they are going to get into a fight about it," Rodriguez said.

Parents say they'd like to hear from the school when this kind of thing happens. But they say it all starts with parents keeping a closer eye on their kids.

"I just hope maybe parents talk to their kids about it and make sure their kids aren't getting into that kind of stuff," Rodriguez said.
