A Wichita resident is sharing an inappropriate message loud and clear for the whole neighborhood to see. The biggest problem for parents and neighbors is Kiwanis city park and Dodge Elementary School are right across the street.
"PISS OFF" is lettered across a house roof on 2nd St. that can be seen from blocks away. Parents of elementary students say they can't believe it.
"It's disrespectful in the way he would put it on his house," said parent Yusif Hayes. "They're by a school and there's neighbors who might not want read that everyday when they go outside.
Neighbors said they don't know why the owner put it up, but it looks like it's here to stay.
"It looks like it's shingles, he has private property (signs) everywhere, it doesn't look like he wants anybody messing with him," said neighbor Sam Schartz.
Schartz added the resident might have put it up because air planes fly low over the neighborhood, but that it's inappropriate with kids constantly playing across the street.
"You don't put that around kids, it's not something anybody should do, I don't care what you have a problem with," said Schartz.
Dodge Elementary School Principal Susan Rosell said she's never had to deal with an issue like this before. Occasionally workers have to remove inappropriate graffiti from the school playground, but this is completely out of their control. She said teachers have been told what to say if students ask about it.
" We would tell them that he has his right on his property to express himself in that way, but we here at Dodge have a certain standard that we have for our children," said Rosell.
Hayes said he doesn't want his young son to see the message on the roof.
"Because I don't want him to pick up that kind of language," Hayes added.
Principal Rosell said she hasn't gotten any complaints from students or parents about this issue, but that it's unfortunate that someone wishes to express their freedom of speech rights in this manner.
