Many residents in south Wichita have gone through Sunday morning and into the afternoon without power.
At 8 a.m., Westar reported on its website that just over 950 people were without power. That number continued to fluctuate and jumped to 1,035 by 1:15 p.m.
The primary area affected is from Waco to Broadway and from Mt. Vernon to 31st Street South. A Westar spokesperson said the scattered outages are attributed to storm related equipment failure. No serious damage or major outages were reported.
He said because of recent high temperatures and no moisture, rain that moved through the area Sunday was likely to cause problems.
Westar originally hoped to have power restored quickly, but the rain has hindered their efforts, the spokesperson said.
Police said that any traffic signals that are not working should be treated as four-way stops.
There has been no official word on when power will be fully resorted. To report an outage, call 1-800-LIGHT-KS.
