Shawnee County deputies are investigating the death of a man found in the middle of the road in Southeast Topeka.

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Shawnee County deputies are investigating the death of a man found in the middle of the road in Southeast Topeka.

It’s not clear exactly what happened, but deputies say they were called to SE Croco and SE Howard just after 4:30am Saturday morning after someone called 911.

They found the man dead in the road in the 3600 block of SE Howard.

Their preliminary investigation indicates the man was possibly hit by a car.

Deputies are also investigating a car found abandoned near Cypress Dr. and Croco Rd., only a couple of blocks away, but cannot say at this time if it was involved in the incident.

A Crime Scene Investigation team has also been called into help in the investigation.

The man has not been identified.
