Customer service classes begin Wednesday for Wichita taxi drivers, a new requirement passed by city officials earlier this year.
The two-hour class is part of the city's updated taxi regulations, and is now required for drivers to obtain or renew their taxi licence.
The updated regulations were passed after several people complained to the city that some drivers didn't know their way around town or made negative comments about Wichita.
The classes are being offered by Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau free of charge.
"Visitors often depend on taxi drivers for advice for finding great restaurants or what is the 'must-see' attraction in the city," said Jan Heibert, Go Wichita director of visitor services. "The classes give drivers the information that they can pass on to visitors and at the same time make a friend on behalf of Wichita."
The first class takes place Wednesday at Go Wichita, 515 S. Main, Suite 115. Then classes will be held on the third Wednesday of each month through April 2013. After that, classes will be held quarterly.
