WICHITA, Kan. — Police are investigating a bizarre incident at a south Wichita gas station.

It happened Wednesday morning at the Presto/Phillips 66 gas station at 47th and Broadway.

According to police, the 27-year-old gas station manager asked his 19-year-old girlfriend to come to the business. When she arrived, police say he began punching and kicking her. He then reportedly bound her hands with nylon packing and put her in the restroom.

Just after 9 a.m., someone was about to walk into the gas station but saw a disturbance inside and thought the store was being robbed. That person called 911 and several officers responded.

When police arrived, they entered and found the bound woman being beaten. Officers used a Taser to subdue and arrest the 27-year-old suspect.

The woman was treated at the scene by EMS, but she was not seriously hurt.

Police said the woman was in the process of ending the relationship and had recently filed for a protection order, but it was not yet in effect.

The suspect, 27-year-old John Alexander Thomas, was booked on multiple charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, criminal threat, criminal damage to property and failure to comply.
