A man in his 20's was killed early Saturday when he slammed his pickup into the back of a parked flatbed semi trailer. The crash happened just after 2:00 AM in the 4500 block of W. Irving. Amazingly, the passenger in the pickup survived.

"From the damage and from the fact that the semi trailer was shoved approximately eight feet by the collision, it's obvious that the speed was quite high," said Wichita Police Sgt. Jim Merrick.

Merrick said the unidentified driver was killed instantly, but his passenger was able to crawl out of the truck and dial 911 with his cell phone.

"The passenger got out of the truck after the collision, disoriented, and was able to make a cell phone call to 911," Merrick said. "By describing names of businesses around him, we were able to figure out where he was."

The accident remains under investigation. No names have been released.
