WICHITA, Kan. — A man is hospitalized after an early-morning shooting at a home in south Wichita.

Police responded to the 300 block of East Funston around 2:30 a.m. after a man called 911 saying he had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the 53-year-old man near a door, lying on the ground.

He was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, but is expected to survive.

Police said that earlier, the man had given money to a 40-year-old friend to go buy drugs. When she didn't return, the 53-year-old called another man and threatened to beat up the woman.

Soon after, there was a knock on his door. When he opened the front door, another man fired a shot through the screen door and hit him in the shoulder.

Police describe the suspect as a white male with dark hair wearing a black tank top. It's unclear if it's the same man the shooting victim had called earlier.

No arrests have been made.
