Man dead, woman critical injured in Hutchinson crash

Hutchinson, Kan. -- One person was killed, a second critically injured in a crash in Hutchinson early Sunday morning.

It happened at 1:50 a.m. at 11th Avenue and Main Street. Hutchinson Police say 28-year-old Homer Alexander Beebe of Clifton, Colorado, was driving a silver 2005 Chevy Trailblazer westbound when he collided with a tan 1999 Chevy Sliverado pickup, driven by 34-year-old Pedro Perez. Perez's truck then collided with a park vehicle.

Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Beebe's passenger, 28-year-old Marena Gumber of Palisade, Colorado, had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters. She was taken by Lifeteam helicopter to Via Christi-St. Francis in critical condition. She she has since improved to serious condition.

Beebe fled on foot from the area but was found and arrested later at 41 Sunset Drive in Hutchinson. He is currently being held in the Reno County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failure to report an accident, and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. No bond has been set.
