A man and his daughter were robbed at knifepoint Saturday evening at a gas station in Hays.
Police Chief Don Scheibler said the two victims were at a gas station near I-70 at around 6:45 p.m. when 39-year-old William Tyler confronted the two and stole the father’s Nissan pickup.
The father suffered a cut on his hand before Tyler fled the scene.
A Hays police officer located the stolen truck north of Hays, Scheibler said. Tyler attempted to elude the officer but lost control of the pickup at Toulon and I-70, got out and ran.
Tyler was arrested after fighting with officers. He and one officer were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Tyler, a California resident, is now being held in the Ellis County Jail on multiple felony charges.
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the apprehension of Tyler.
Details about the victims were not provided.
