Yoder, Kan. -- A Yoder man was critically injured after a car he was working on fell on top of him.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. at a mobile home park, located in the 3100 block of Switzerland Road. The Reno County Sheriff's Office tells KAKE News that the car was resting on a scissor jack and the man was working on the car's transmission at the time of the accident.

The child of the man's fiance say the car slide forward and off of the jack, falling on top of the man. The child called out for someone to call 911.

The man's neighbors heard the child cry for help and ran over to help. Deputies say the group of four to five neighbors were able to lift the car up and pull the man from underneath it.

The sheriff's office says the man was conscious and alert when he was airlifted to Via Christi Hospital - St. Francis in Wichita, for treatment. The sheriff's office identifies the man as 38-year-old Marvin Sherwood.

A Via Christi spokesperson says Sherwood is now in fair condition at the hospital.
