The crash happened on March 5 at 22nd and Jackson. Witnesses told police that a car was going between 55 and 75 miles per hour before the driver lost control and hit a tree.

WICHITA, Kan. — A Wichita man has been arrested and charged in connection to a fatal crash that left another man dead.

The crash happened on March 5 at 22nd and Jackson. Witnesses told police that a car was going between 55 and 75 miles per hour before the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The driver was hurt and the passenger, 55-year-old Kevin E. Donn, died at the scene. Paramedics said there were signs of drinking in the car.

On Thursday, police arrested that driver, 55-year-old Melvin Leon Day. Friday afternoon, Day appeared in court and was charged with second degree murder, or in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter. He was also charged with driving while having a suspended license.

His bond is set at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 6.
