UPDATE: Friday, August 16, 2013

Wichita Police are investigating a shooting that happened downtown overnight, which could be a case of self defense.

Officers were called to the Commodore Apartments near Elm and Broadway around 1:40 a.m. Friday.

Police say two men got into an argument in a hallway, which escalated when one of the men knocked the other to the ground and began punching him. A third person then reportedly gave a gun to the man on the ground, and he allegedly shot the man who was hitting him.

The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but officers don't believe his injuries are life-threatening. They say he was very intoxicated.

The alleged shooter, who was not badly hurt, and the third man were brought in for questioning but no arrests have been made. Police say this could be a case of self defense, but that will be up to the district attorney to decide.
