Man Killed, 3 Hurt In Southeast Kansas Crash

An Iola, Kan., man was killed and three others hurt in a crash Saturday afternoon in Crawford County.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. on Kansas Highway 7 at 590th Avenue, about three miles south of Girard.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 1963 Studebaker was heading westbound on 590th Avenue, failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 7 and was hit by a northbound pickup.

The driver of the Studebaker, Richard Sigg, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers were taken to local hospitals in critical condition. They have been identified as Iola residents David Redfern, 66, and Raymond Sutterby, 62. Reports state no one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

The man driving the pickup, Shawn Garbin, 39, of Girard, was also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
