A Junction City man died early Friday morning after getting out of his crashed pickup and falling off a bridge in southern Riley County.

It happened around 5:45 a.m. on the Kansas River Bridge of Highway 18 just south of Ogden.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says an eastbound Chevy pickup lost control on the icy bridge and collided with two other pickups that were also heading east.

The driver of the Chevy, 37-year-old William Bratton, Jr., got out of his pickup and then fell off the bridge, an estimated 30-foot fall. He was pronounced dead a short time later. Reports state it wasn’t immediately known how or why Bratton went over the bridge rail.

Occupants of the other two vehicles in the crash were not hurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
