Police say a man fell off his bicycle and was unconscious when he was hit and killed by a train in Emporia.
Police Lt. Jim Tilton identified the victim of Wednesday night's accident as 46-year-old Michael Glaser of Emporia.
Tilton says it isn't clear why Glaser fell off this bike and onto the railroad tracks. He was hit by an eastbound train that was unable to stop in time to avoid the accident.
KVOE reports Glaser was trapped underneath the train before he was extricated by rescue workers. He was pronounced dead at Newman Regional Health Center.
Fire officials say a man died after being hit by a train in downtown Emporia.
Emporia Fire Department Battalion Chief Rich Gould says rescue units were called to the scene Wednesday night and found a man under the train engine.
The man was extricated and taken to Newman Regional Health, where he died. His name has not been released.
KVOE reports a bicycle was found nearby but police have not confirmed whether it was involved in the accident.
