UPDATE: 5:30 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2012
The Sedgwick County Sheriff's office say a man is expected to be okay after he was struck by shrapnel from an exploding target Saturday afternoon.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. near K-96 and 119th Street West. Deputies say the man was with a friends firing a rifle at a legal explosive when it went off, sending shrapnel into the man's upper leg.
The uninjured man tried to drive his friend to the hospital, but they determined the injury was too serious to not contact 911. He was transported to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in critical condition, but now is expected to be okay.
