Shots were fired during an apparent break-in at a south Wichita home early Wednesday morning.

Around 5 a.m., the owner of a home in the 1300 block of South Wichita Street was notified that his security system had been triggered. He arrived at the home a few minutes later, and said he found two men inside.

The homeowner later told officers that one of the suspects threatened him with a knife, and that's when he fired at the men. He believes he hit one of the suspects in the leg.

The resident called 911 and moments later, officers were able to locate and take a suspect into custody nearby. That person wasn't injured and officers were unable to confirm if another man, who may be injured, was involved. Officers are checking with area hospitals.
