A man who barricaded himself in a south Wichita home following a domestic violence incident Friday afternoon was taken into custody early Saturday morning.
It began around 3 p.m. at Washington and Wassall. Police said it started out as a domestic violence call in which a woman reported her boyfriend was "strung out on meth" and threatened to kill her with a knife and a baseball bat.
The woman and a child were able to get out of the home. But when officers arrived, the 32-year-old man barricaded himself inside, claiming he had a gun. Police said he was being “very uncooperative.”
Several families in neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
“We've got a phone into him. We've been trying to talk to him, but he's stopped talking to us he seems. He just doesn't want to communicate with us right now," Lt. E.J. Bastain said at the scene.
A SWAT team was called in, and the suspect was eventually flushed out using teargas. He was taken into custody shortly after midnight.
No injuries were reported, and no names have been released.
