A man was arrested early Sunday morning after three small children were reportedly seen wandering a north Wichita street.
A woman called police around 1:30 a.m. and reported seeing three children, ages 3, 4 and 5, walking in the 700 block of West 23rd Street North, near Arkansas Ave.
Sgt. Bart Brunscheen says the woman told police she saw the kids walk to a residence and knock on the door. A man, who the woman described as "dazed and confused," answered, and the children reportedly went inside.
When police arrived at the home, the children were not located immediately. Brunscheen said the man had trouble answering questions and appeared intoxicated.
It was soon discovered that a relative had taken the children before police arrived. They were found unharmed and taken into protective custody. The man was arrested for aggravated child endangerment.
Police contacted the mother, who said she left the kids with the man while she was at work.
Further details were not provided.
