A man is in custody after running from Kansas Highway Patrol troopers Wednesday morning.
It all began around 8 a.m. when the highway patrol was working an unrelated crash on K-96. That's when troopers say another car illegally drove around the accident scene.
That move caught the attention of one of the troopers on scene, who then initiated a traffic stop. The driver stopped, then changed his mind and quickly drove away.
While driving down K-96 at a high rate of speed, the car clipped an unknown object which damaged the left front tire. That tire later fell off, but the suspect kept going.
The trooper backed off, deciding that the suspect would have to stop soon due to the condition of his car.
That driver made it to the area of 21st and Hillside before he drove up on the curb and bailed out. He was quickly arrested on the other side of a Wichita State dorm building.
The suspect was driving a rental car, but so far there's no indication as to why he fled from the trooper.
