A Wichita man accused in the shooting death of an 8-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Zachary Gaston, 25, entered guilty pleas last week to second degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. He had previously been charged with felony first degree murder and was set to go to trial next week.
The victim, 8-year-old Kimbra Moore, was hit in the head by a stray bullet while she slept in her south Wichita home near 31st Street South and Broadway in September of 2012.
Soon after, police arrested Gaston. Investigators said he was shooting at a car when a stray bullet hit Moore. Another bullet grazed a woman, but she recovered.
Gaston is scheduled to be sentenced on November 21.
