Local agencies hope to battle it out in the boxing ring, for a good cause.
The Guns ‘n Hoses boxing tournament pits law enforcement officers versus firefighters. The event is a fundraising project for Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County.
“The funds raised by Guns ‘n Hoses Wichita will go a long way toward helping Crime Stoppers continue to offer rewards for information leading to the arrest of criminals,” said Galen Davis, Crime Stoppers chairman.
Paul Masterson, Crime Commission president, said a traveling trophy will be awarded each year.
Five agencies will be involved in the amateur boxing fight: The Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Wichita Fire Department, Sedgwick County Fire Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
More than 40 participants are training for the tournament. The boxers are required to undergo three months of boxing training and physical conditioning in order to ensure their safety in the ring.
The Guns ‘n Hoses Wichita event will take place at the Beech Activity Center, 9710 E. Central, Friday, April 27. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with boxing beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets start at $25, reserve seats range between $100 and $125. They can be purchased by calling the Crime Commission office at 316-267-1235.
