When the temperatures drop car technicians say they see more people bring their cars in with weather related problems. But they say this year's warmer than usual winter has been keeping those people and their cars out of the shop.

Technicians at Auto Smart say they're a lot busier now than they've been in weeks.

"With this one we've seen a little upturn in business today, which is good,” Car Technician Mark Cole said.

The reason for the rise in business is the recent cold snap.

"Winter, winter hit this morning and my heater didn't work,” Customer Will Rogers said.

Technicians say usually by this time, they've seen a lot more customers with car problems like broken heaters and coolant leaks.

"The cold weather tends to put extra stresses and strains on things start leaking when they normally wouldn't,” Cole said.

Cole says typically summer and winter are their busiest times of the year.

"When you have an extreme change like an extreme heat or an extreme cold it does start bringing cars in,” Cole said.

But so far this winter, the weather has been mild and much warmer than usual.

"It's easier on the cars, it's easier on everything. Just like your body, it's easier to be outside in 70 degree weather than it is in 100 or 20 degree weather,” Cole said.

Cole says during mild winters he does see less people coming in to "winterize" their car. He warns a trip to the shop now could be a lot cheaper than waiting until we do see some extreme winter weather.

"The worst of course is not checking their anti-freeze before it gets cold and then the engine freezes and breaks,” Cole said.

The recent cold weather isn't expected to last. It's supposed to be back up in the 50's by the end of the week, so car technicians say this might be a good time to go ahead and get your car checked out before another cold snap.
