Kobach Expands Federal Lawsuit Over Kansas Ballots

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has expanded his federal lawsuit over the release of some voters' names by county officials to candidates in a close legislative race.

Kobach wants a federal judge to prevent Democratic Rep. Ann Mah of Topeka, Republican challenger Ken Corbet of Topeka and their supporters from contacting voters who cast provisional ballots in the 54th House District race.

Kobach sued last week to block Shawnee County from releasing voter names but was too late. He amended his lawsuit late Monday to cover Douglas County.

Corbet leads Mah by 44 votes out of nearly 11,000 cast. Both are trying to contact voters and help them correct any potential problems, so their ballots can be counted. The district includes parts of Douglas, Osage and Shawnee counties.
