Kobach: Counties Work To Help Kansas Primary Turnout

Saturday, August 4, 2012

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach says county election officers are using creative approaches to improve voter turnout, including taking the elections to county fairs to encourage rural residents to vote in advance for Tuesday's primary.

Kobach says any efforts to expand turnout are appreciated. His prediction of an 18.1 percent turnout Tuesday nearly mirrors that of 2006.

Kansas allows advanced voting up until the day before the election to give registered voters more opportunities to participate.

While some counties are taking the process to county fairs, at least one county is issuing its own photo ID cards to help voters comply with new election laws.
