Kline Seeks To Rebut Allegations In Ethics Case

Former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline says his investigation of the late abortion provider Dr. George Tiller did not include learning the names of adults who had abortions.

Kline testified Tuesday for a second day of a hearing on a
professional ethics complaint against him. The complaint before a
three-member state panel stems from Kline's investigations of
abortion providers while he was attorney general from 2003 and 2007
and Johnson County district attorney from 2007 to 2009.

A key allegation is that Kline and his subordinates falsely
claimed in court documents that they weren't trying to identify
Tiller's adult patients.

Kline testified the aim was finding children who had abortions
at Tiller's clinic to determine whether Tiller had reported sexual
abuse of those children, as required by Kansas law.
