WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita Police now say a 38-year-old woman and her grandchildren were not living at a south Wichita storage unit.

It began around 11 a.m. Wednesday when someone called police after seeing an unattended child outside a unit at Security Self Storage in the 2000 block of South Seneca. When officers arrived, they found 3 children: a 4-year-old boy, 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, staying in a unit with their 38-year-old grandmother.

Originally, police thought the family was living in one of the units. However, after talking with the father of the children, investigators say the grandmother was watching the kids for the day and had taken them to work in the storage unit.

The children had food and water with them. No charges will be filed in the case and the children have been returned to their father.
