The Kansas Star Casino is hiring. Construction crews broke ground near Mulvane this week, and the developer says its time to get to work. It's been a long time coming, but this week, Peninsula Gaming says its fulfilling its promise to get to work on a $280 million casino on time.
Construction crews broke ground Monday just west of the turnpike at the Mulvane exit. They are preparing the area to build a 170 acre casino and entertainment center. Now crews are waiting on a building permit to be issued. New casino general manager Scott Cooper says it's just a matter of time.
"You'll see quite a bit of grading," said Cooper of the work people should expect to see in the next few months. "It will be exciting to see it go up quickly."
The Kansas Star is already accepting applications on-line. So far more than 2600 people have applied. The casino is expected to open for business next February, with the entire project finished by 2015.
